Tampa Bay flats fishing affords sportsman with some of the best non-stop fishing action anywhere in the world. From the line screaming kingfish and tarpon action, the excitement of boating Spanish mackerel and speckled trout on almost every cast, to the thrill of stalking huge redfish schools... Tampa Bay offers some of the worlds best inshore and nearshore fishing year round!
Captain Doug Hemmer is a regular on Fox 13's Fish and Chips segment, as well as, a St. Petersburg Times fishing correspondent. He grew up right here in Treasure Island and has over 25 years experience in putting our local and visiting fisherman on the best inshore and nearshore fishing action!
Captain Doug Hemmer uses a 22ft skeeter bay boat to fish the flats, inshore and near shore waters. Using light tackle to target snook, Redfish, trout, grouper and tarpon. Capt Doug works the waters of Tampa bay, St Pete, Treasure Island and fort Desoto.
These areas have the most pristine grass flats in the state. Most trips will have you fishing in less than 10 minutes. The skeeter runs smooth, dry and fast as it covers the shallows that are 1ft or less. The boat departs from south St Pete less than a minute from the interstate.
